The thing is what I don't care is the speed. I mean, the 0-60 ratio doesn't make sense because there are SPEED LIMITS. Who cares about the speed?

I think Tesla is doing immeasurable good with its revolution of the electric car industry, but I fear that they push for change where it isn't necessary. I imagine Elon read, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," laughed, and made his company motto "if it ain't new, redesign it." I remember in 2014 thinking the design of the center console (specifically the fact that it didn't extend to the armrest) was a dumb change for change's sake because it needlessly sacrificed an area for storage of everyday items like phones and cups for the sake of "clean minimalism". Now the center console extends to the armrest like every other car ever made and they are better for it. However, now Telsa has its sights set on the stalks and is pushing for the same "innovation" where none is really needed. Sure, placing more of the controls on the wheel itself a la F1 is interesting, but removing the gear selector is downright ridiculous. It will inevitably be available on the touchscreen, but that cannot reasonably replace a physical mechanism with greater feedback and control. Tesla (or maybe just Elon) needs to learn that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," doesn't mean an idea can never be improved or changed, but forcing revolution can hamper growth when you're inevitably forced to backtrack after you learn the old way maybe had a point.

My take on the steering wheel is that it could work if the sensitivity of the steering increases continuously with the angle of rotation. The sensitivity could possibly also be made dependent on the speed. So, on the one hand, you could stay in lane at high speeds and, on the other hand, maneuver in small parking lots without ever having to change your grip. That would even make for more security, because people would stick their hands to the wheel.

I dislike when questionable "accidental" design themes become forcefully brand-defining... The Model S started with the more conventional "fake" front grille. It was oval and dictated the curved shape of the front edge of the bonnet. That shaping was all nice and congrous. Then they decided to ditch the faux grille, but because they didn't want to redesign the bonnet, they just erased the grille and suddenly, the shaping of the bonnet edge stopped making sense. It became ugly, like a peevish grimace. It was one of those facelift decisions made just to have a change, with no regard for the overall design. With the Model 3, which was quite successfully designed without a front grille from the get-go, I expected the next gen of Model 3 was going to follow that. Instead, they just cemented the peeve-face as a trademark. Or (and that is even more probable) this still constitutes just a facelift, as far as the exterior of the car is concerned.

Anything that is about 2 tons needs to know where it is going, no guessing! But the wheel is a safety design protecting your face when the airbags go off. Besides, it's a bad habit relaxing your arm or wrist on the wheel when you drive, although I think we have all done it. It's going to be strange when 1.99 sec to 60mph is the norm, and all carbon free. Musk may have given us what we need to save this planet just in time. Now if we can get rid of the republicans...

Today, a Tesla S on autopilot crashed and killed two people in Texas. It took a fire department over 4 hours to put out the fire. The men killed in the crash said just before they left that they wanted to go for a drive and were talking about the vehicle’s driverless features, an official said. Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, earlier on Saturday had promoted a recent safety report from the company, writing on Twitter that “Tesla with Autopilot engaged now approaching 10 times lower chance of accident than average vehicle.”

i wouldnt set too much stock in the steering wheel that is pictured, pretty much every concept car for the last 20 years has come out with a yoke steering wheel - yet i have never seen it come into any production car. even the original design of the cyber truck had one but was on the list of features that had to change before it would pass road registration.

Id rather have a full steering when, if im not mistaken formula 1 cars also have different ratios for steering. And drive selection as a button or shifter would be better im very not interested in having to open the screen each time i wanna go in reverse
CS_FL Prieš 4 dienas
The steering wheel is one issue. the other is how much time your eyes AREN'T on the road when you are looking at the touch screen.. Auto steering helps that, but doesn't FEEL as safe as me running it. Probably IS, but it doesn't feel good.

I once had a car as loaner where the owner had installed an F1'esque "yoke." So glad I never have to do that. Sure, one can drive using that. It's just a lot worse than a wheel and looks really stupid. For me, the main thing that the model X brought to the table is that it had a somewhat functional interior. It would seem that's not the case anymore.

active noise cancelling in cars isn't new. but tesla is probably going to have the best execution of it given their 22 speaker array and software flair. If Tesla is going for the aviation theme then redundancy is something they should carry along with the design language and jargon.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the yoke steering wheel is optional and you can get a regular round wheel if you want to. Also, at least in Europe the yoke is legal since there is no law or regulation on what shape a steering wheel should be.

TBH I think they are just going over board with minimalism. There are fundamental reasons we have buttons and sticks in cars. Some of it is part of tactile feedback you need as a driver to cognitive feel confident in what you are doing. The whole movement away from that has made it difficult to really feel comfortable with buying a newer version of tesla... but just MHO
